If you are considering using one of the many low calorie diets out there to lose weight, then you should think again.
There seems to be a certain logic to a low calorie diet. I mean the reason that you are probably overweight is because you are storing excessive calories as fat. It seem logical that a decrease in calories will result in weight loss.
The problem here is that your body is basically a survival organism. Everything that your body does is aimed at keeping you moving and keeping you alive. If yu ae used to consuming a particular number of calories, and all of a sudden this number drops by a large amount, your body will respond by burning calories at a slower rate to compensate. It will do this because the message it is recieving, is not that you are trying to lose weight, but that you are in the process of starving, and your body will react by hanging on to calories, it won't care that you are trying to lose them.
This is why so many people who go on low calorie diets, find that they lose some weight at the start, and then the weight loss stops after a few weeks. You simply realise that the diet isn't working, so you give it up. The realisation that the diet does not work is the correct realisation, but for different reasons to what you think. A low calorie diet is a temporary method, and you can guarantee that any lost weight will return.
Doing it in this way is a drain on your effort and time, and it also leaves you with a belief that weight loss is not possible for you. This means that each time you try to lose weight, you will approach it with the belief that you will not succeed, because you have always failed in losing weight in the past.
If your aim is to lose weight for the long term then low calorie diets are something that you need to keep away from. The fact that you are reading this, shows how well these sorts of diets work. There are ways that you can successfully lose weight and keep it off. Having a long trm plan involving exercise and diet is the real key. The thing is to slow things down a little. Simply put, using sensible methods and sensible time frames will allow you not to only succeed in losing weight, but it will it will allow you to keep the weight off for good.
In conclusion, the option of losing weight successfully, lies with you. You can keep doing the same things and continue getting the same results. To get a different outcome, it stands to reason that something different will have to be done. You really aren't doing yourself any favours with the use of low calorie diets.
